Mason Recognizes College Faculty and Staff for Outstanding Achievement

On November 3, 2015, George Mason University presented Faculty and Staff Outstanding Achievement Awards to more than 150 faculty and staff members for their exceptional contributions to Mason. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is proud to honor its colleagues who were among those recognized.

Barb Gomperts, MA English ’08, is the office manager in the English department, and has worked at Mason for 17 years. She won one of the new Faculty/Staff Alumni awards (an honor she shared with Jennifer Robinson of the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations).

Kelly Dunne, interim associate dean/assistant professor at New Century College, received the David W. Rossell Quill Award, presented to a faculty member who exemplifies the leadership, teaching, and loyalty to the mission of George Mason University that was embodied in Professor Rossell’s service to the university.

The university’s Office of Distance Education presented the Distance Education Award to staff members of the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media for its new online course, Introduction to the Digital Humanities. The course, which is the first in a 15-credit online certificate program in digital public humanities, was praised for its innovative model based upon synchronous online class sessions, synchronous individual meetings between student and instructor, and asynchronous modules.

The team members recognized were Kelly Schrum (project director), Stephen Robertson (course professor), Jennifer Rosenfeld (project manager), James McCartney (senior developer), Chris Preperato (interactive and multimedia developer), Joo-Ah Lee (junior developer), and Caroline Kelly (undergraduate OSCAR research assistant).

The college congratulates these members of the "CHSS family" and we join the university in saluting the work they do!
