Section Information for Spring 2011

What is culture in a contemporary America? And what role does culture play in the formation of one's sense of leadership and life purpose? Through this course, students explore the intersections of culture, urban grass roots leadership, and community engagement. Students specifically explore their cultural heritage, family and community history; study leadership approaches and strategies across various communities of color; explore the use of cultural arts as a form of community leadership; and engage in meaningful dialogue with those using culture to create social change. Course participants will also examine the geography of leadership and the cultural differences that exist between urban, southern, and global communities. [Includes one credit of experiential learning].
