Cost
$400 which includes all supplies, activities, snacks, camp T-shirts, a day off campus and a party for campers and families at the end of the week.
Director
This camp is directed by Heather Hare, Associate Director, Center for Leadership & Community Engagement. She develops academic service-learning and student volunteer programs as well as facilitating leadership courses at George Mason University. Her nonprofit experience includes volunteer coordination and training in organizations addressing youth development, homelessness and community mental health. Heather has an MS in Social and Organizational Learning from Mason and an MA in Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Associate Director
Pawin “Win” Malaiwong has been working with New Century College (NCC) for nearly four years both as an instructor and academic advisor. Classes that Win has taught range from “Narratives of Identity,” which is part of the Mason Cornerstones program, “Senior Capstone,” and “When Cultural Worlds Collide.” Win also has served as faculty mentor for numerous internships.
Win has his degrees in Literature and American Studies and is now working on his Ph.D. in Cultural Studies and Graduate Certificate in Folklore at George Mason. His areas of interests include, but are not limited to, contemporary theory and practice in folklore, the social constructions of gender, postcolonialism, third world cinema, and Native American literature and film.
Overview
Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Camp is a weeklong enrichment day camp located on the Fairfax Campus of George Mason University. The camp combines hands-on science projects, creativity challenges and outdoor games along with activities to build campers’ leadership skills and self-esteem. New Century College faculty and student mentors provide a fun and innovative curriculum.
Every year on the last day of camp, we celebrate the achievements of the campers and showcase their projects at a Family and Friends Party. Check out last year’s schedule for a preview of what the rest of the week might hold in store.
An After-Camp Computer Club is available from 3:30 -5:30 Monday through Thursday for an additional $80.
