Internships through NCC
Internships engage students in the classroom outside the classroom
- the workplace. This form of experiential learning propels education
into the world of action where ideas are tested and career-ready skills
developed.
These immediate, concrete experiences in the workplace (and any workplace
may serve as a classroom) become the basis for "learning by doing."
Students discover new opportunities to hone competencies. They also
acquire new knowledge and skills by successfully meeting interpersonal
and intellectual challenges, applying classroom theories to practical
problems, investigating work roles and career possibilities and, in
some cases, providing community service.
But a successful internship requires more than just 'going to work.'
Throughout each internship, students work with individual faculty supervisors
to observe, and reflect on, the most significance events and experiences
during the placement. Students integrate these reflections into a comprehensive
internship portfolio which both showcases their specific achievements
in the workplace and analyzes the quality of their learning throughout
the internship.
Each semester, students may earn between one and six credit hours of
experiential learning through internships (to the maximum of 24 hours
of experiential learning).
